President's Message - 2006

Dear members of Kerala Samajam, Munich,

Dear fellow Keralites and friends,

It is the nature of Malayalees to found an association  a Samajam, independent of where they are, in Kerala or elsewhere. One can dare to say that this phenomenon has its roots in the social set up of our home country and the round family and group family system practised therein. Any way we are proud of this nature.

Being a foreigner in fully strange country like Germany, it is for us Keralites a little unreliable atmosphere in numerous fields of our life. Life is a bundle of uncertainties- be it people, Situations, money or health. Due to the varieties of problems confronted from professional instability, family inadequacy, lack of cultural and environmental experiences or occurrences we all are constrained to be dependent on mutual commitment and help of our fellow Keralites. To lead a life in accordance with the needs and necessities of everyday life in this country and to feel at home by some means in this unknown culture it's inevitable to seek assurance and assistance deepening our country fellowship.

India is very well-known for her manifold cultural, musical, athletic and sport activities. All of them are on the one side unique in the world, on the other hand very distinguished. Kerala, as God's own country, has an accumulation of such heritage. A Keralite can only be happy if he can consume abundantly from the pot of such proud heritage every now and then.

These were the background comprehension of the Malayalees in 1969 as they started in Munich for the first time a get together. From 1969 to 2006 Kerala Samajam stood for the interests of Keralites. The encouraging support of the catholic diocese of Munich is to be herein specially and thankfully remembered.

It is in 2002 that Kerala Samajam Munich became a 'e.V.' (Eingetragner Verein). The leading team of officials under the leadership of our last President Mr. Johnson Chalissery has to be kept in record for this marvellous and tedious work. It is a gain for us all.

Dear friends, a samajam is for unity, companion- and fellowship and co-operation. It's a place for happiness and strength. Every one of us is proud to be here in Munich and to be a member of Kerala Samajam, Munich. Let the spirit of our homeland, Kerala and enthusiasm and dignity of our country lead us to an active Indian community, in all the fields- cultural, culinary, in sport and athletic area- and also in the personal commitment to each one of us as well.

Dr. Mathew Kannookadan
President
